Roberto Vega

Roberto Vega joined Syngenta in March 2014, and since then he has played different global roles in the sustainability department, including leading smallholder policies and harmonizing activities on capacity building for the safe and responsible use of the company’s solutions. Today, Roberto leads Syngenta’s Value Chain team, coordinating the relationships with key NGOs, IGOs, industry groups and other strategic stakeholders, and developing implementation plans with global, regional and territory functions to enable the delivery of Syngenta’s sustainability commitments and their embeddedness in the existing and new value chain partnerships. Roberto represents Syngenta in different global initiatives such as the WBCSD FReSH, IDH Sustainable Fruits & Vegetables Program and the Leadership Circle of the Sustainable Food Lab.

Before Syngenta, Roberto worked over 15 years with Dole Food Company, playing strategic roles in finance, production, logistics and sustainability.  Roberto held the position of Global Director of Sustainability at Dole where he had the opportunity to participate in several initiatives and projects with strategic stakeholders including Rainforest Alliance, WWF, Fairtrade International, the Water Footprint Network, the World Banana Forum and many others.

Roberto has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and a M.B.A. from Universidad Internacional de las Américas in Costa Rica, as well as an Executive Master in Environmental Governance & Policy Making from the Graduate Institute of International & Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland.  He has also participated in several executive programs on Sustainability and Food & AG Management at INCAE Business School in Costa Rica, IMD Business School in Switzerland and Cornell University in the United States of America, among others.
